Firefree Class A has been rigorously tested at QAI Laboratories, an
IAS-recognized fire testing laboratory & CALFIRE-approved testing Laboratory.
The results demonstrate its exceptional fire-resistant properties. In a
10-minute ASTM E 84 (NFPA 255, UL 723) test, Firefree Class A achieved a Flame
Spread Index of 25 with a less thickness of 6 mils or .006 inch and a Flame
Spread Index of zero with a thickness of 10 mils (.010 inch), also meeting the
requirement for a smoke-developed index of 30 (=50) for use in air plenum
spaces.
Extended testing for 30 minutes under ASTM E84 (NFPA 255, UL 723, Chapter 7A
CBC) for Ignition Resistance showed remarkable results. Firefree Class A applied
to various substrates, including engineered OSB and Douglas fir, achieved both
an FSI (Flame Spread Index) and smoke-developed index (SDI) of zero at different
thicknesses, indicating no significant progressive combustion. The coating also
demonstrated minimal char damage, highlighting its ability to maintain the
structural strength of materials in a fire situation.
It's important to note that while Firefree Class A has proven effective in
laboratory tests, its performance in an actual fire may vary due to different
conditions and the variability of fire tests. As a component of complete fire
retardation systems, it contributes to slowing fire spread only where applied
and does not prevent a fire from starting or continuing. The effectiveness of
Firefree Class A in a particular fire will depend on factors such as the amount
applied, the conditions of other assembly elements, and the actual fire
conditions. It is crucial for the applicator to follow application directions
and for the occupier to ensure the paint is in good condition for optimal fire
safety.

FfA meets all ASTM requirements, which is the industry standard for noncombustibility and is utilized to rate fire-retardant-treated lumber. FfA is a fire resistant paint for wood that is listed & inspected by the ICC (International Code Council).
Firefree Class A fire-retardant paint is highly cost-effective. Due to its superior fire-retardant properties, the wood fire retardant coating requires only a thin layer, resulting in significant savings in material and labor costs—typically 35% or more—compared to other fire-retardant coatings.
Firefree Class A is easy to use. It's a high-quality, nontoxic, water-based, fire-retardant paint with a smooth white finish. In many cases, FfA can be used without a primer, saving you money. You can apply this fire resistant paint for wood easily with a brush, roller, or sprayer.
Firefree Class A is a cost-effective fire retardant coating. It slows fire spread and doesn't show significant combustion even in a 30-minute test. Wood treated with FfA maintains structural integrity with minimal char damage in wildfire situations.
Our wood fire retardant coatings are safe and eco-friendly, with very low VOCs (less than 36 gr/liter), well below the current EPA rules and regulations of 250 gr per liter & even California’s limit of 50 gr per liter. Our product is extremely nonflammable and environmentally friendly.
Firefree Class A is a paint that can be used on wood to make it noncombustible. It works on many types of combustible materials like oriented strand board (OSB), Douglas fir, plywood, and more. This fire resistant paint for wood is great for residential, multifamily, commercial, and industrial projects.
